Multiple RSS Email Setup and Automation with FeedOtter

The advanced Multiple RSS Feed Options found within FeedOtter allow you to connect multiple content source feeds into one email newsletter. That way, you can present multiple content feeds from different categories in one email instead of sending out a campaign for each feed — and as the content cheerleaders we are, that’s exciting!

To be a little more specific, one feed may be regularly updated blog entries, and the other might include more static presentations like job postings or case studies. The handy thing with the advanced FeedOtter options is that you now have even more control over your feeds, including the ability to click on/click off any of the feeds involved in your single campaign.

1. Gather Your Multiple RSS Feed URLs

The first thing you need to do is find the appropriate RSS feeds that involve different categories of marketing content.

For simplicity sake, we are going to use Marketo for our example:

https://blog.marketo.com/category/digital-marketing/feed
https://blog.marketo.com/category/content-marketing/feed
https://blog.marketo.com/category/marketing-technology/feed

2. Setup Your Multiple RSS Feed Email In FeedOtter

Head over to your FeedOtter account and click on the Automated Email that you would like to incorporate your feeds. Select the Feeds Tab.

Once you’ve located the Feeds Tab, you must then insert each feed and then click Validate Feed & Update Preview.

3. Choose a Multiple RSS Feed Email Template

To complete your Multifeed integration, click the Template tab and find a Multifeed email template. After you’ve completed that step, the rest of the template customization falls to your personal preferences.

Select a multi-feed email template

If you are building your own custom email template using the FeedOtter rss email template guide you can easily find multiple post loops for use in your email below the feed entry boxes.  Use these "for loops" to display content from the appropriate feeds in your email.

Multifeed Power Features

Subject Line Tokens: Once upon a time, you were only able to select the post title from the first feed, FeedOtter now gives you the ability to choose the first post title from any feed you prefer. The feature is located to the right of the Subject Line in the Preview Tab and provides you with a little more adaptability and flexibility that we think you’ll enjoy.

The Green Eye: This feature will allow you to decide which feed triggers an email. The way that FeedOtter’s automation works is that it looks at all of your feeds by default and tries to determine whether or not there is new content if there is - it will send. By checking which feed should trigger that send, can now exercise more control over your campaigns.

The "All Posts" Loops: FeedOtter also contains a special loop of content for each feed that contains all valid posts in a feed.  This is different than the standard feedotter.posts loop which will only contain content that has been published since the last send. To use the "all posts" loops construct a for loop that looks like this:

{% for post in feedotter.allPosts2 %} ...  {% endfor %}
